Before you ask, I wasn't actually trying to measure a soup bowl. But my fancy electronic callipers from eBay just weren't up to the stretch for measuring the supports on a spiral staircase to allow me to make custom fit collars. So, when the tool doesn't make it, make a new tool. Now I can measure anything up to 3m across (or however long a piece of wood I use on the calliper leg). But the most important learning for me is the need for constant adaptation and innovation. It not enough just to think about the problem at hand - you need to think about where the problem could go next, and be ready with a solution that will work for the now, and for the future.
And, to the keen observer, it would appear that I can also make soup bowls reduce in size...More handy magic.
